Fishing – 14th September 2011 #fishblagdon

Everything’s looking set to provide us with a classic back-end to the season – the only variable is if the weather plays its part….

The trout have been feeding well on the corixa, snail, hoglice and the occasional small dark olive buzzer but the recent rough weather has slowed the action down as the trout adjust from marginal feeding as they retreat back into deeper and clearer water.

Tactics form the banks and the boats are virtually the same as realistically all anglers are looking at fishing similar areas of water – the only differences are that the higher winds have presented problems for the boats while the persistent weed beds cause obstructions for the bank anglers.

Try a combination of a lightbulb or black tadpole on the point of a long fluorocarbon rig fished from a floater or intermediate with pearl, red holo or red wire-ribbed diawls on the droppers. On more settled overcast days, boat anglers can target fish moving down any wind slicks with dries : try claret Shipman’s, orange, red or firey brown hoppers or claret and hare’s ear haystacks. Alternatively, try a team of red and claret emergers fished as traditional wets behind a deer-hair sedge or orange razzler on the top dropper.

Best Bank Areas :
Peg’s Point, Rainbow Point, Ash TRee and Rugmoor Point.

Best Boat Areas :
Between Rugmoor Point and Woods Bay, Pipe Bay, off Rugmoor Point an up into the Top End.
