Conditions – 14th September 2011 #fishblagdon

Low water levels combined with high winds and heavy rainfall have reduced water clarity to around a foot in places as exposed shorelines are washed out into the body of the lake.

With the major food items being the hoglice, corixa and snails this means that activity levels have fallen off as the trout are used to feeding in the more marginal areas.

The recent breakdown in the settled weather isn’t all bad news -
oxygen levels are high and the rough water conditions have started to break up the weed beds as falling levels and shorter days leave the weed more exposed to die-back. That being said, the weed beds are still quite extensive at the Top End and are an impediment to bank fishing in one or two of the more traditional back-end pitches.

Stocking is set to continue for the next couple of weeks and the condition of the fish is worthy of mention – they’re still feeding hard and some reports place average weights coming off the bank in the past week at around the three pound level.

For the coming week, the unsettled conditions look set to remain with winds from a mainly West or Southwesterly direction blowing up to 30MPH by the weekend. Daytime temperatures are set to peak at around 15C and may drop as low as 2-3C in the evenings. The unsettled conditions are liable to continue into the end of September.
