Fishing – 17th August 2011 #fishblagdon

The recent humid weather has reduced activity levels and catches are becoming less prolific as the fish move onto maintenance feeding patterns in the warmer water.

A decline in food species also means that the trout tend to burst feed, stocking up in shorter periods of high activity as opposed to the “grazing” patter that they’ve been following for the past few weeks.

Tactics are pretty similar from both the banks and the boats- try a black tadpole on the point with pearl or red-holo-ribbed diawls on the droppers or on days of higher overcast, try a corixa on the point with claret or red emergers or an orange hopper on the dropper interspersed with pearl or green holo-ribbed diawls .

Stocking levels have remained high and the trout are well dispersed throughout the lake so given that the fish are fairly consistent in their feeding depth it’s a matter of finding that critical fishing level rather than moving around to try and find pods of feeding fish.

While water levels have fallen, substantial beds of weed are still active and the previous tactic of fishing into lagoons formed by these beds or fishing down the side of a large bed still hold true.

Best Bank Areas :

The Home Bay side of Green LAwn, Rainbow Point, Rugmoor Point and the seat halfway up the North Shore.

Best Boat Areas :
The Byewash, the edge of the weed bed that almost fills Butcombe Bay, Pipe Bay and drifts down any wind slick formed from the aerator plumes in the dam basin.
