Fishing – 23rd April 2013 #fishblagdon

April 23, 2013

Fishing has improved over the last couple of weeks with a number of excellent overwintered fish appearing in bags.

As always at this time of the season, the trout are feeding at a range of depths on as much food as they can get down themselves so tactics and methods are very varied – don;t be afraid to try something different if your usual “go to” rigs aren’t seeming to work !

What you’re looking for are the shallower pans in the lake which will heat up the fastest – the fish will run into these during the day while giving themselves good access to deepwater if conditions should become too bright. Depth is critical but try something like a goldhead montana on an intermediate with a couple of orange biot diawls on the droppers – if you can’t control or maintain an effective depth with that, replace the goldhead with a booby and give the classic “washing line” a try.

Buzzer rigs (black tungsten bead on the point with red and olive on the droppers) are working but use a 3 foot polytip to make sure your rig is fishing as near ‘up and down’ across the breeze as you can and in terms of retrieve speed, keep is a close to static nymphing as you can.

If you want to explore some of the deeper shelf areas, booby rigs are usually the way to go (your choice of point…) with orange biot diawls on the droppers – although action on these has been slower as the trout vary their depth during the day.

Best Bank Areas :
the Home Bay side of Green Lawn, Peg’s Point, Rainbow Point and the car park end of the North Shore

Best Boat Areas :
Either side of Rugmoor Point, the shelf ares off Polish Water and Butcombe Stones.
